I know I am not alone in saying this, but I have a hard time making space for God. I get afraid of missing deadlines, and not reaching A+ grades. I want the glory: I want to tackle the world and win the prize. It is then that I am reminded of how important that quality time with God is.
Today was one of those convicting days. I was reminded that we are not our own, but God’s. No, it is not just a feeling that we follow leading us to pray some selfish little prayer like, “God, please help me get a good test grade”. We should want that connection, the desire to be close to one that is greater then ourselves, and stronger then we will ever be. I do not refer to some innate being, but to a personal, loving, and gracious God. This God of which I speak wants us to draw near to his heart and seek after his presence in awe and reverence. “Seek the LORD and His strength; Seek His face continually”. 1 Chronicles 16:11. This brings me to ask the question, why do I so often stray from this command? Why do I let fear rule my life and consume my thoughts and actions?
We live in a toxic and sinful world. The internet is a place filled with many fantasized and easily accessed sins. We are confronted with many fake forms of connection (social media, YouTube vlogs, and various websites). This leaves us distracted giving us something to fill our minds with, and thus we cross-out any extra time that we would have had for God. I want to fast for the next forty days. No I am not going to fast food; instead I am going to fast YouTube. I know this sounds weird but I have found that I spend a lot of time scrolling through YouTube vlogs and thus waste a lot of time that could have been used for/with God. I am going to focus my time on the ones I love and care about, and the God that I have neglected for too long.
“The LORD has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men To see if there are any who understand, Who seek after God.” Psalm 14:2
What have do you find that is pulling your heart away from God? Maybe you should fast? remove____________ from your life, and conserve your precious time, the time He has given you.
Have you made space for God today?
